Hisense opens first India manufacturing plant in Sri City
HYDERABAD: Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances giant Hisense has opened its first manufacturing facility in India at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.The facility, spread over 10 acres, has been set up by Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited (EMTPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited, which is part of the Hisense–Epack Durable joint venture.The plant, located within Epack Durable’s industrial park and adjacent to its existing ODM (original design manufacturer) manufacturing plant, has been set up at investment of over $30 million (approx. Rs 272 crore).According to Hisense, currently pilot production is underway at the facility, which has an initial installed capacity of 7.5 lakh room air conditioners, which will be the focus of the first phase of the project.Once fully operational, the plant will exclusively manufacture room air conditioners for Hisense India and will account for 100% of its room air conditioner output in the country.The company said in the second phase, which is planned for the second quarter of 2026-27, the company will add top load and front load washing machines the facility, followed by LED television production from the third quarter of 2026-27 in the third phase of the project.The new plant currently employs about 500 people and is expected to support nearly 1,500 jobs over the next 12–24 months, with hiring underway across supply chain, finance, administration, technicians, and skilled manufacturing roles, the company added.The project is part of its plans to advance its localisation strategy and aligns with the Indian govt’s `Make in India’ initiative, the company said.Hisense India CEO Pankaj Rana said the plant would strengthen the company’s control over quality, cost, and supply chains while enabling product customisation for Indian consumers. Ajay Singhania, managing director & CEO, Epack Durable, said the facility would reflect global manufacturing standards and bolster India’s export-oriented production capabilities.
